New Central Avenue plan to be introduced

FD council to get first look at tonight's meeting.

A proposal that could someday change the look of a long stretch of Central Avenue will be introduced to the Fort Dodge City Council tonight.

It addresses the streetscape between 12th Street and the City Square, according to City Manager David Fierke. He said the street itself, sidewalks, bike paths and parking are all part of the plan drafted by Snyder & Associates, of Ankeny.

The proposal will be presented during a workshop session at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S.

There will be no vote on the project. Fierke said the workshop will be an opportunity for the public to comment on the plan. It will also be a time for the elected officials to give the city staff some direction on how to proceed with it.

If the council decides to go forward with the proposal, the work will be done in phases, Fierke said.

The Central Avenue plan is not the only thing awaiting the council’s attention tonight.

The council will begin its work at 5 p.m. with a report from Main Street Fort Dodge.

At 6 p.m., the council will hold its business meeting.

Major agenda items include a resolution declaring the city’s intent to buy property for the future reconstruction of Third Avenue Northwest and Hawkeye Avenue between Seventh Street Northwest and the Hawkeye Avenue Bridge. That project is expected to be done in 2022 and 2023.

The sale of a couple pieces of city-owned property and the purchase of some vehicles are also on the agenda.
